What baby gear do you recommend and when to buy?
I am only 11.5 weeks pregnant, but I’m already itching to buy something for the baby! What items do you recommend buying first? This is my first pregnancy so I’m really not sure where to start. I was thinking about buying the nursery furniture first, or maybe the stroller? I feel like I should wait longer, but buying SOMETHING would feel nice. Also, I’d like some recommendations on brands for baby gear, and the best places to buy things for the best deals. I thought about buying some items on craigslist.
When my friend was preggo she started buying clothes the both girls and boys could wear. she also started the nursery up, buying small stuff here and there. But where i am from, when u have a baby they give u a car seat. Just buy small things, like diapers and bootles and pacifiers. Of if u are going to breast feed look for the best in the items. Congrats!
It’s perfectly fine to start buying stuff now. Don’t buy everything though, leave something for your baby shower. lol
I’m 25 weeks and I haven’t bought much. We bought a vibrating chair (because it was on sale for $20), I bought some socks and 2 onesies when I was 16 weeks because I was DYING to buy something, but held off on buying too much until I found out the sex.
I wasn’t going to buy anything until Feb (because we’re moving Feb 1st and I don’t want extra stuff to move lol). But I found an add on kijiji of a woman giving away a bunch of baby girl clothes for free so I jumped on that. Got a huge bin full that way.
As for brands, it really doesn’t matter. Go to a baby store (babys r us is great) and make a registry (registering really helped me hold off on buying. It let me shop without actually spending money lol). Give yourself a few hours to do this so you can really look at everything and see what you like, what you prefer etc. They have some great stuff online too you can look at (and their website has recommendations from parents who’ve used everything so you can see what other parents thought of the items).
But really, just start buying when you can afford it, and when you want to. There’s no “right” or “wrong” time to start buying.

Get the car seat first, cant get the baby home till you have one of those.
Craigs list is great for toys and things, but I would not buy anything that could potentially jeopardize my baby’s safety, Like a Used Car seat or even a crib. A tiny crack in a car seat or a crib lock, from being old or roughly used, could mean it not working properly. But a stroller, a play mat, even an exersaucer, Craigslist is great for that. I bought an exersaucer for my daughter for 30 bucks instead of 95, cause I found it on craigs. Washed and sanitized it to death, and was good to go. A Play Mat is great, like the fisherprice gyms… My daughter has loved it since day one. A Bouncer seat. A swing, dont get a travel one, they are crap, they dont hold as much weight, are not as sturdy, and tip easily once the baby starts moving around more, A baby bath tub with an infant sling makes sponge baths a breeze. Pak and play by Graco, the full size ones, Great bassinet and changing pad for my room for the first few months, and great playpen now for when I want to know that she is safe while I take a shower, etc. So i dont have to wonder if she has wiggled or scooted somewhere unsafe. And ya i couldn’t wait either… so I bought a couple things, like a car seat stroller combo, when i was just 10 weeks or so. And was still so antsy, that I just started “shopping” online, by making baby shower Registry lists at target and babies r us, etc. Besides that way you can look at everything first compare products and prices online and not buy anything you will regret later, because you are antsy.
