When should I starting getting baby gear?

5

I’m 20 weeks pregnant today! Now, my situation is this: the pregnancy was not planned, we are not married and my family doesn’t know really how to feel about their soon-to-be grandson. On top of that, I don’t have a ton of girlfriends…so I don’t think I’ll be getting a baby shower. The question I have is this: when should my fiance and I begin to start buying baby stuff?

  1. 35 weeks with Sophie. says:

I thought I was in that position. Start buying little by little every week or so. That way you dont have to buy everything all together at the end.
    Good Luck.

I started getting baby things after 20 weeks. I ordered my crib at 20 weeks pregnant and it takes 8 weeks to come in. If you wait too long, you may not want to be walking around in a mall at 30 + weeks in the middle of summer.

Good luck with the families, they will love the baby!!

Buy every week. I’m 26 weeks and im still buying at least once a week. i dont have a lot of family or friends so we have to get everything ourselves. good luck!

Maybe your work places can have one for you. If you or your fiance have someone at work that you confide in, explain your situation to them, so that they can plan it at the work place. However, if it doesn’t happen that way, I would in about your 3rd trimester (32 weeks). I experienced being over anxious once we received the baby stuff, because things were sooo cute!! So the later the better. Good Luck to you

If you don’t think you will be getting a lot of help from friends or family members, you should start right away. It’s amazing how much you need for a new baby. My suggestion is to open a registry online (Most places have checklists to tell you what the MUST-HAVES are), and then prioritize and especially work on some of the bigger items.

    First and foremost:
A carseat, the hospital won’t even let you leave with the baby unless you have a carseat installed and know how to use it.
    Next, a Crib and/or bassinett or co-sleeper.
Try to get some of the smaller items you need every week or two (diapers, bottles, bath stuff, etc. etc.) but definitely focus on the big expensive items as much as you can. Those are the things that you won’t get at a shower if you DO end up having one.

    Congratulations by the way.
