So many options on baby gear! Poll..?

12

I have just found out that my baby is a boy and have been doing some shopping…but there are SOOO many options between brands and even so many different types of gear like bouncers and swings…what products were worth it to you and which weren’t? I don’t want a bunch of stuff around my house that won’t get any use!

Who cares.. about the brand.. go for the pricing !! They’lll grow so fast during the 1st year, and before you know it they will be on to bigger and better things, brands of course being irrelevant !!

Swings are cool, and bouncers ok.. but get something that encourages them to do work and involves hand eyes coordination, as this will become vital in their development later !!

Congratulations on your baby, heres what made life alot easier for me, a moses basket, and a baby bouncer, i didnt buy a swing, im not very fond of the whole swinging thing, moses basket was really great, so light i could take it anywhere, bedroom, loungeroom, friends houses etc… oh and dont go to crazy on clothes, you get lots of gifts and they really dont even get to wear most of it… goodluck!

Take the electric option when it comes to baby swing, if your baby likes swinging you will be replacing lots of batteries. The bouncers with vibration are also a favorite for babies.

i think besides carseat, all other stuffs you can just go by price. For carseat I recommend you go with better brands like Graco etc, and make sure they are up to the most current saftey standard. For most other things, I would suggest you wait until the baby is here before you go buy it, a lot of stuffs “looks cute” and “useful” might not be the case for your baby. One great example from myself is I got my daughter a baby swing and only found that she hates it. For a new born, you probably need to get some very basic stuffs, and see what is really needed later.

True! When I was pregnant I went crazy buying things that I just HAD to have. Some things I bought were the Bumbo, Boppy pillow, rainforest swing, rainforest jumperoo, rainforest bouncer, rainforest play mat and an arm’s reach co-sleeper(mini.)

Of these I feel that the bouncer, jumperoo and arm’s reach co-sleeper were invaluable. My son hated the Bumbo (refused to sit in it) and swing. He also hated tummy time- he wanted to be held all the time so the play mat did not get any use. No use for the boppy pillow either. The arm’s reach co-sleeper we used for the first 2 months for sleeping then re-purposed it as a mobile changing station (we still use it at 10 months old.)

Every baby is different though. If you have friends with babies I would test it out after your baby is born because he may not like it and this stuff isn’t cheap. Also, there are some things you can do in place of some of these products. For example, put a blanket down for tummy time or prop baby sitting with pillows or boppy pillow.

I received a basic winnie the pooh battery operated swing at my baby shower and my son hated it. So I bought the rainforest cradle swing that plugs in the wall and he loves it. It is much more comfy also.

Now he loves his activity excersaucer. I don’t even know what brand I have.

For us, we love our swing. It’s the only thing our 3 month old can sleep long stretches at night in. However, we had to buy a replacement motor this past week because we wore it out! Wish it were more durable. The bouncer isn’t all that great for us. We have the rainforest bouncer, and the display is right up in my daughter’s face- she hates it, and turns her head when it’s on. We do like our Baby Papasan a lot- it’s like a little seat that she sits in while I eat breakfast and hop on the treadmill. Basically it’s like a carseat for around the house- something that is really useful when they can’t sit up on their own.

One thing you definitely need is a play-yard (playmat/play gym). Our daughter loves to lie underneath the toys and swat at them. We will be buying a jumparoo type thing pretty soon since she seems to be pretty active. We also have a couple LaMaze toys for newborns. We thought they’d be useless, but she really liked to look at them from one month old, and now that she’s a little older, she likes to grab and fold the material on them. She gets really focused when we bring those out.

Also, we love our BOB stroller. It’s awesome- our carseat hooks right in, and it can cruise through snow and ice and on trails.

The one thing we never liked was our Angel Care motion monitor. That thing would go off all the time when nothing was wrong. I’m gifting ours to a friend who says she really wants one. Maybe she’ll like it more than I did.

I got a swing, walker, papasan, playmat in my baby shower and they were all important to me !!
My son used them all until he did not fit.
I did not chose them because if the brand but thinking if my baby would like them or if they are safe for him.

Most of the gear we had for our baby was given to us either at a baby shower, or by my mother in law (first grandchild for her!)… We got a LOT of use out of the bouncy seat (even though our daughter did not care for the vibration). It is the Fisher Price “Infant to Toddler Rocker” – she loved it when she was a tiny baby (and I loved that I could tote it from room to room to have a safe place to sit her down while I did chores, etc.), and when she was a few months old, she loved to grab for the toys that hang down on the bar that goes over it. And, now that she’s 1 year old, she uses it as a rocking chair that she can get in and out of on her own.

She hated the baby swing (which took up too much room, anyway!), but loved the baby gym (ours was a cheap one that didn’t do anything special – just had a few toys that hung from the top of it – we switched them out from time to time to keep it interesting for her!).

    A swing:http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3251256

    A bouncer:http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3160407

They are must haves! You will be able to get so much done w/ those two things. My son loves to nap in them, and i’m able to do the dishes, clean the house, take a shower, etc.
