Need suggestions for baby gear!?
My son is about to outgrow his Graco Snugride carseat and I need a convertible car seat – which ones are good & why did you like it? Also need a suggestion for a high chair. I registered for one at my baby shower but didn’t get it and I heard that it got bad reviews anyway (its the Graco Bancroft one). Thanks!! ![]()
Megan I’m glad you mentioned the high chair because I actually did consider that one!

I would highly recommend the Britax Regent. It’s a car seat that you can use for babies all the way up to an 80 pound child. We have 2 of them for about 3 months now and we love them. It’s big, comfortable, nice looking, and of course, has the highest safety ratings. It’s expensive, but once you have it, you won’t have to buy another one.
I have the Evenflo Triumphe, and love it. It’s so nice and roomy, and looks comfy, too. It’s one of the top 3 carseats on the market. The others are Britax, which are good seats, but a bit pricey. And the other I cannot recall the name of, I’ve heard it’s a good seat, but a pita to install. The Triumphe was easy to install, and at 32in and 21lbs at 16.5mos, my son is still very comfy rear-facing, which I love. Because it’s so wide, his legs aren’t bent at all. I believe it rear-faces to 35lbs as well.
For a high chair all I can say is I do not like my Fisher Price Rainforest one. The tray is really lose, and when I raise/lower it it doesn’t often click right and will be lop-sided until I jiggle it around, which is annoying when I’m in a hurry! Unless you want one that’s pretty and comes with toys for the tray, I’d get a simple one (what I should’ve done!). You can get one for $50-60 at Wal-mart.
I got the Evenflo Triumph Advance convertible carseat because you can adjust the height of the straps from the front, it goes rear facing up to 35 pounds and forward facing up to 50 pounds.
The highchair I have is Baby trend. The seat is really deep so it will last a while and it has a bar between the legs attached to the seat instead of the tray. It folds up pretty good too.
I have the Eddie Bauer 3 in 1 convertible carseat and really like it. I went to all the stores a looked before chosing. One thing I found was how little padding the seats seem to have, I pushed on all of them and found this to be the most padded. It will rear face till it is time to switch then it goes up to 80 lbs. I am pleased with, it washes real well and looks like new afterwards. It has the auto adjust for the straps so don’t have to re-thread to adjust.
For the highchair, we have the Rainforest by Fisher Price. I am pleased. It has a toy that attatched to the tray to keep him busy while I make his food.
I got mine at Babies R Us

Edit:
The above says she has problems with her highchair, I have never ever had any problems with mine. Never the lopsided thing, or the tray being lose. Maybe hers is defective. But I agree with, a highchair is a highchair. I just happened to get mine at my babyshower.
My son has the fisher price rainforest high chair. He loves it and me too. It comes with a toy and an additional tray that is attached and easily removable. The only bad thing is that the tray has to be removed with two hands.
As far as the carseat, I have the elite 3 in 1 by cosco. I guess it is fine. Baby is not in the carseat enough to really give a good opinion.
We have both an Evenflo Triumph and the Tribute, they are both excellent chairs. We like the Tribute because it’s a little smaller and fits into our small car better. We like the Triumph because it’s very well built, has an easy way of sliding to adjust the car, and has turn knobs with which you tighten or loosen the belts. It’s a great car seat.
Get the simplest high chair possible. I couldn’t stand any of the ones on the market. I eventually took off the cover of mine and the stupid toys–the cleaner and simpler the better. It’s easier to clean and just looks nicer.
Also, you might want to look into a book called Baby Bargains–it’s full of tips, reviews, product overviews all about baby gear, it’s extremely helpful in helping you know what other parents found useful and helping you pinpoint what’s important in a product for you.
