How far long were you when you started buying baby items?

9

With my first daughter I started getting things right away. I had everything I needed for her three months before she was born. With my second daughter we went into a panic at the last minute when I found out I was going to be induced 4 weeks early and didn’t have anything. Now, I’m pregnant again and wondering when I should start shelling out the dough to get the baby goods. I’m 5 months and don’t want a bunch of baby gear sitting around for another 4-5 months, so when in your opinion would be a good time to start getting everything?

I bought a few small items at about 12 weeks. Now I am 20 weeks and don’t have much. But every now and then I pick up little things. I just bought the car seat I wanted because there was an excellent sale on it. If I see sale items of things I want I buy it and there is a big walk-in closet in the nursery so I put it in there. It is a pain to have it sitting around but it’s also good because I feel I won’t be so rushed. I don’t think there is a *right* answer but I think certainly after 20 weeks is a good time to slowly start getting stuff.

I also am buying a pack of diapers for every month I don’t have to buy tampons.

I would start buying at about 7 1/2 and have everything bought by about 8 1/2 months. This means everything is not around for very long but you should have everything bought or at least the important items before the baby comes, even if it arrives early.

i started shopping with my first baby when i was 6 months pregnant but the bigger stuff like crib and bassinet was bought at 8 months… this time im only 9 weeks so far so no plans for shopping for another 4 months.

Maybe this is because I’m a first-timer, but I say as soon as possible. If I were you I’d start buying stuff little by little right now so you can be completely ready in 2-3 months. I started buying stuff right away, I’m now 25 weeks pregnant, and I have the crib, glider & ottoman, high chair, changing table, bouncer, diapers, blankets, and clothes. I’m still needing little odds and ends and a couple big things, but I don’t feel rushed to run out and buy all this stuff…I feel relaxed and it’s at my own pace. Plus, when I’m in a grumpy mood, I take out all the baby clothes and go through them one-by-one and it puts a smile on my face every time! Good luck!

Well I think that you can start buys the small stuff little by little and have somewhere to keep them away for all those months. Like the diapers and stuff, you can start buying just so it won’t be so hard on yourself when the baby is almost due or when you already have the baby. Also for the bigger stuff you can start buying that like maybe 2 or 3 months before just so when it’s almost time for the baby to be born your not in a hurry, stressed out or worrying that you still need this or that. So making a list always works for me.

I’m 35WKS and really just started buying. I would buy some things if only i thought that it was a good deal and i wasn’t going to be able to get it later at that price. My reason was I knew my family were throwing me a huge shower so me and my hubby wanted to wait and see what we would need after the shower. We did buy her furniture when I was 30wks and her bedding and room decor 3days ago. Wait until 35wks like I did. A little sooner wouldn’t hurt though.
