How do I get my dog’s bed to not stink?

16

Hi there!

My dog’s bed is not machine washable. When we give my dog a bath, of course, she smells immediately better. Because we can’t wash her bed though, soon enough, she begins to smell again. The main reason is because her bed smells!

Does anyone have a suggestion for cleaning her non-machine washable bed? Thanks for any help at all! :)

Either get a new one that isn’t smelly and washable so it won’t start the “smelly” process over again, or use the little hose part on your vaccum to get the hair off, and spray it with Febreeze (there’s kinds safe for pets), and you could also put a blankie over the bed and wash the blankie to help keep the stink from being directly on the bed.

Get rid of it. You should not own a non-washable pet bed. Take it to the cleaners, and see what they can do then cover it with thick blankets.

I would suggest getting a machine washable bed. There is no real way to clean it (unless you want to hand wash it) you can only cover up the smells with other smells.

I would invest in a bed that has a machine washable cover. In the meantime, proper grooming and a little Fabreeze ( they make one specifically for pet odors) will do the trick.

Hand wash it. Most dog beds are hand washable.. If you can’t hand wash it, spray it with frebreeze.(sp?)

If it isn’t any sort of washable, i would suggest a new bed that is washable.

Also, you can look up the company that made the bed, and see if they have any suggestion for cleaning their products.

If it’s not machine washable, try washing it by hand. Get a bristle brush and a bucket (use water and landry soap) and clean the surface. Clean again with water to help rinse it.

If that’s too much trouble or it’s not washable at all, Arm & Hammer makes a great spray called Carpet&Fabric Pet Fresh. Also, Febreeze makes a spray specifically for pet odors. I’ve tried both and personally like the PetFresh better, but you might like the Febreeze.

you need to get a machine washable bed. what kind of dog bed (or at least cover) isn’t machine washable?! or, cover it in a blanket that can be washed, i suppose.

Air it out on a balcony or in your yard and use something like Febreeze. Also put a blanket in the bottom of it, blankets are washable.

Get a new bed, but if you can’t, there is some stuff at wal-mart in the cleaning section where fabric refreshers are, anyway it is called ODOR BAN. That should take care of it.

try putting baking soda on your dog’s bed, and after a bath you can even brush it through its fur. this will not hurt your dog because it is natural and it will keep your dog smelling fresh and clean until its next bath!

either get a new bed thats washable.. or wipe old one down with a damp cloth or spray fabreeze on the old one..

I guess I’d recommend Oxygen for Pets. However, I’d be worried about chemicals being so close to where my puppy spends so much time. Just get a washable one if the Oxygen one doesn’t work or you don’t like the idea.

A NON washable dog bed? Who makes such a thing? Are you sure the cover doesn’t come off somehow? No zippers? Secret flaps? Wow … just an FYI, I was my dogs beds at LEAST once a month!
