MP3 Players in baby gear?

9

Not to offend anyone who uses them, but I have seen cribs, playpens, even bassinet and strollers for sale recently, with mp3 ports in them. I couldn’t help but LOL at the idea of my baby jammin’ out to an mp3 player.

I know it’s just a new method of playing music, but technology has gotten way ahead of me, and when I saw those, I started to feel the first twinges of the generation gap between my sons and I.

I felt OLD. I don’t even know how to use an mp3 player!

Anyone else feel the same way?

Lol, what does a BABY need a mp3 player for? I mean, really? I am considering getting my daughter one (who will be almost 7) for Christmas… But a baby? That is a bit ridiculous.

Oh, and you don’t sound old to me. I am only in my 20s and I don’t get it either. :)

lol its all personal. My baby can’t stand the music that comes standard on cribs/swings/mobiles… he screams like you wouldn’t believe.

We play our satellite radio for him, or one of our MP3 players lol he rocks out to all kinds of music that way and LOVES IT!

Nothing replaces our bedtime ritual though– records on a standard turntable– nothing like the Beetles with all the cracks and pops and the warm sound of a record.

See now I am 25, I would love that in my stroller, then on my walks I could easily just snap some headphones on and enjoy music on my walk. But besides that one thing. I still think it is a bit much to have a MP3 player for a baby.

Baby gear from our infancy looks like crap compared to todays stuff, but todays items are also a bit unnecessary. I think it’s a bit up and beyond to put mp3 players in baby gear… Well.. other then the jogging stroller i have, which is just speakers to connect to an MP3/cd player. I’m going to try to justify the stroller’s MP3 player hook up.. This way, when you are out and about on a walk, mom doent have head phones in listening to music, while pushing baby, and possibly not hearing traffic or baby. I think it just makes is more enjoyable for both mom and baby.
But, to have a built in MP3 on a child’s toy, crib, or playpen, i think that’s way over and beyond necessary. I’d opt to skip on that product. I just think it’s a waste of money to purchase an item other then a stroller… (i’m guilty!)

Don’t worry, by the time he is five you know that ALL KIDS need a cellphone, laptop, desktop, you know all the “cool” stuff…lol…

    I wouldn’t by that for my BABY…at all..nope..not for me..We don’t own a cellphone either…or an mp3 or an ipod..lol…

I guess I’m in the minority here– I WISH my baby had an MP3 player– as it is, I keep MY ipod in our player under his bed, I have a playlist of lullabies that I play softly during his naps. My 8 month old is a very light sleeper, and it helps to block out other sounds (like my dog, trucks passing by, kids playing outside, gardeners, etc). I don’t get to use my ipod at all anymore, because it’s too much of a hassle to remember to put it back in the player before naps.

Anyhow, I think it’s great because you can have baby listening to REAL music, rather than the same old songs that come on mobiles, swings, and other toys.

And I’m 31, for the record. My husband is 41 and uses his ipod all the time. So it’s not really about age.
