How do I keep my baby warm in winter?

5

This is probably a stupid question, but I can’t find good articles online. I have a 2 month old – he is still in a baby carrier style car seat. I have a fleece car seat cover and my doctor is very adamant that we don’t use “snow suits” or big coats. How do I keep him warm? Is a hat, mittens, blanket and the cover enough? I live in Wisconsin – it is going to be a cold winter – it’s already down to 20 degrees today. What other baby gear do you suggest? And how should I dress him? Thanks.
I guess I should clarify that I’m referring to keeping him warm when we go outside. Staying home isn’t an option. Both of us will go crazy! :-)

Keep him inside and keep the hot air going, make sure he doesn’t get cold or else…it would be bad. You’ll probably be holding him alot anyway so just don’t let him get to cold and if he does just put on a nice fleece coat on him, or something warm that’s not a heavy coat.

put the baby in an undershirt and footy type sleepers and use a hat(absolutely)along with a fleece blanket and the car seat cover.i couldnt use mittens though my daughter was(is) a thumbsucker.if hes not the mittens would be good too.

I don’t understand why you can’t put him in a snow suit or anything?
Is a bunting considered a heavy coat or a snow suit? If not, get one of those…socks, shoes, sweat pants, long sleeved shirt, jacket, hat, mittens, and a blanket over him while going to a WARM car should be good…don’t leave the windows down…my MIL has a habit of turning the heat on full blast while rolling down her window so she doesn’t get heat flashes…I’m afraid that my babe will get a cold by her doing that…especially during cold/flu season.

Just make sure he is wrapped snugly in a blanket or get one of those car seat covers that zips up. The amount of time that you are actually going to be outside is so minimal that if you keep the heat on in the car, it will be plenty warm enough. Don’t forget the hat! You can buy these one piece fleece things that zip up and have a little hole in the bottom for the car seat buckle to go through. I loved those!

In the car, use fleece blankets to keep the baby warm. Once you’re ready to take your baby outside, I would opt for a carrier, like a Bjorn, sling, pouch, wrap, and then put a larger size coat over the baby and yourself (don’t cover baby’s face though). Your body heat and the baby’s will keep you both toasty warm!
