What is a good list of baby gear to take to the beach?

8

My baby is 6 months old. He has been cleared by the doctor for sunscreen, pool and beach.
I guess my main question is clothing. Clothes to cover up exposed skin versus long sleeve clothing being to heavy and cause heat irritability. This is my first child and I’m sure I’m being a bit neurotic ^-^ . I just don’t want him exposed to the sun but Ialso don’t want him getting over heated. A helpful suggestion from my family was to take a blow up baby pool to thebeach and fill it with water under a umbrella/canopy.

Sunscreen, extra formula, towel, umbrella to shade the sun, and extra diapers.

It depends on how old your baby is…

nappies, suncream, a sunsuit if you have one (if not check next or mothercare as they both do them), a sun hat, something for shade and some towels

How old is your baby? First and foremost, sunscreen. Bull Frog is the best one out there for durability and protection. However, I’m sure if you have another brand, it’s fine.

We always took a small inflatable pool and some toys, a large umbrella or canopy and all the other necessary baby items – diapers, bottles, etc. You can fill the inflatable pool with a little water and let the baby play there instead of trying to take him/her into the ocean. Then, after you are done, just empty the water and get ready for the next day. It worked very well for us to do it this way.

A large canopy or umbrella is a must when you have a baby or small child, it will at least offer some sort of shade for their delicate skin.

Lastly, you could take a friend – LOL!!!! I’m sure there are plenty of us who’d be willing to join you. Have fun!

sun cream, beach towel, sun hat, extra milk and snacks,(cold drinks included), change of clothes, extra shoes (for playing in water/on beach with), and whatever else you normally pack on an outing. (toys etc.)

A large umbrella, a float that you can put them in that has openings for the legs so he can sit up (like a little sea monster or something) that also has a canopy, snacks, extra swim diapers, a large blanket, sunscreen (tons) and a big floppy brimmed hat.

EDIT: A hat is very important to keep the sun off the ears and scalp. You can also buy the little “rash guard” type surfer shirts (old navy sold them last year) that are light weight and meant for use in the water. That should protect his little shoulders, back, chest and belly!

The blow up pool isn’t a bad idea -if you still use a baby bath that might be easier for baby to sit in? Depends on your baby.

If you are really paranoid about the sun look for solarveil clothing/coverings. Lightweight cotton mesh fabric is a second best option -you want loose not tight (think of what they wear in the desert)
