Any suggestions for a arthritic dog bed?
I have a 12-14 yo Pom, she has arthritis in her hips and elbows. I would like to buy/make a bed for her as she can’t jump.
She likes to be covered with a blanket, while she sleeps on the high pile shag rug…and that just not the best place for her to be.
Any suggestions?

My dog had arthritis also and I bought her several different beds, but she never used any of them and preferred to sleep on the carpet and floor. They do make them and they are expensive. You could try getting some of that foam that looks like an egg carton and cover it with some high pile shag material (like the rug) maybe she will use it. Your vet can prescribe some pain medication to help manage her pain.
Oh, poor baby.
I know that I’ve seen orthopedic beds for dog in Pesmart, Petco and even Walmart.
You can probably search on-line first, then call the store in your area to see if they have the one you want in stock.
Good luck
EDIT TO ADD:
I found a couple on this site for around $50 or less. I’m not sure how much you want to spend.:

This is what we did for our 14 year old mix….and it worked until the American Bulldog chewed it all up. (We did make another).
We bought a twin size of that egg crate stuff that you put on a mattress. At Wal-MArt about $12 I think. We cut a proper size for her, which was about 1/4 of the stuff. Then we cut a “pocket” in the thickness of the stuff. Inside the pocket we put one of those “snuggle discs” that you put in the microwave and it keeps warm for about 6-12 hours. Then we put it inside of a pillow case, since none of us can sew a cover for it. She LOVES it. We are going to use the last of it to make another one since sometimes she doesn’t seem to want to walk all the way back to the other one.
As a mom and new pet owner, I don’t know much about arthritic dogs, however when i read this I got a really good idea. Maybe you could either buy her, or get one at a second hand store, but I have a baby papasan chair that has a blanket attached to it and its very low to the floor and fleece-y/velvety lined. It also vibrates and plays music!! haha… I don’t know if you will try this or if it would work, but I thought it would be a good idea! Good luck!
The Website Drs Foster and Smith has some special beds for arthritic dogs and well as some excellent supplements that may make her more comfortable.

it seemed to help with the pain and discomfort greatly. i think they have some in small sizes, but im not sure, we got ours at feed and supply store but im pretty sure i’ve seen some at petco and petsmart.
good luck and i hope this helped
The local pet shop sells memory foam dog beds. Made from the same stuff that they make mattresses and pillows for us. They shape to the contours of your body. So should be very good for an arthritic dog.
My Milly likes to be covered up on a night, she also like her pillow plumping up as well. We do have pampered pooches!
Something like this would be good…with a blanket on top of course
